A letter to U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R – MO), member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, in anticipation of the hearing on the “Big Tech” censorship. Global Life Coalition has documented over 30 separate cases of online censorship targeting pro-life organizations for the purposes of manipulating a narrative that supports the tech-giants’ own opposing view.
Dear Senator Hawley,
Here in the United States, we enjoy the right of free expression through our Constitution, which is vital to society. With the rise of social media platforms, studies have shown most Americans get their news from such sources online. It is critical that such platforms and search engines are transparent about how they manage differing viewpoints in the posts and stories that are shared by users.
Pro-life organizations and individuals are unabashedly some of the most discriminated against by the news media, which now includes online search engines and social media platforms. The universal censoring of life-affirming organizations and pro-life information in an effort to control or create a different narrative has risen sharply to today’s deafening, 200 decibel crescendo.
Media’s Sin of Omission
One example of the media blackout regarding pro-life activity began in the 1970s. Secular media has refused to cover or even mention the largest pro-life demonstration in the world that occurs annually. For 47 years, pro-life advocates have gathered in Washington, DC, for the March for Life with barely a whisper of coverage from the mainstream media. Even though this event draws more than 600,000 now – the equivalent of 7 football stadiums – the media refuses to cover the gathering that brings people from every state in the nation.
“Scare them to death. Use up their resources. Try to bankrupt them.”
Abortion lawyer Margi Haimes, at the
National Abortion Federation convention, Los Angeles,
May 14-16, 1984.
In the mid 1980’s, a ruthless but common and deliberate misuse of the RACKETEERING INFLUENCED CORRUPT ORGANIZATION ACT (RICO) has been savagely used against peaceful pro-life groups. Since 1986, more than 50 RICO suits have been filed against pro-life individuals and organizations. Those charged with RICO can be fined up to $25,000 and sentenced to 20 years in prison per count. It is financially devastating because all the defendant’s assets are frozen, making it difficult to pay even a defense attorney. RICO is considered easy to prove in court also since it focuses on patterns of behavior as opposed to criminal acts. The original intent was to shut down organized crime, but now limits pro-life activity.
Label Them as Terrorists
It’s hard to believe, but in 2009, the Obama Administration released two documents suggesting that pro-life protesters were threatening “domestic terrorist” forces ravaging America. Anyone considered under this label could have been held indefinitely.
Also, while in office, Obama weaponized the IRS to go after pro-life organizations along with other conservative groups with intense scrutiny. Many pro-life organizations applying for a tax-exempt status were denied also. Additionally, almost everyone who took the adoption tax credit were singled out and audited as well. Many complained, yet Director of the FBI, James Comey, told Fox News he saw no need to investigate. Finally, in early May 2013, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration released an audit report confirming the IRS used inappropriate criteria to identify potential political cases.
Abortion Industry Threatened by the Pregnancy Resource Centers Pushes Google To Act
In 2017, abortion advocates began complaining that pregnancy centers were doing a better job beating them to the top of the search page on the internet. These abortion advocates began dogging Google and others to change[i] their algorithms and censor the results so pregnancy centers would not rank on the first page. One of their many tactics was to follow Google employees to work with these bicycle sandwich boards pictured above.
Pregnancy Centers Beating Planned Parenthood – Impacting Their Bottom Line [ii]
The abortion industry reported that despite billions of dollars in income including $300 million+ from taxpayers, they were losing the battle online to the nation’s 2,750 pro-life pregnancy centers. The average center existed annually on a $300,000 budget. They are shining beacons of health, hope, care, and support. These one-stop shops, with their small budgets and big hearts were crushing the abortion industry’s bottom line. They were bringing abortion numbers down and competing nose to nose with a ruthless industry that cares nothing for the women who enter their doors. To the abortion industry, this is all about the money.
In the report was the following:
Abortion enthusiast Robin Marty lamented that Planned Parenthood and other abortion dealers are losing more women than ever before to simple Google keyword searches.
Marty’s piece, parroted obediently by The Guardian, The San Jose Mercury-News and others, shows that in at least 20 cities across the U.S., typing in phrases like, “Where can I get an abortion near me?” yield a mix of results from pro-life pregnancy centers and abortion mills like Planned Parenthood.”
That drumbeat of pro-abortion activists soon prompted changes at Google.
Pregnancy Centers Must Be Certified to Run Ads – Only Industry Requiring Certification [iii]
Pro-life pregnancy centers who wish to run paid ads on Google now have to be certified by completing a form with Google indicating they did not offer abortions. This statement now appears in the ad itself. The centers are still competitive with the abortion clinics but not at the level they were due to these recent changes.
The following are more than 33 documented accounts of censoring of pro-life organizations that has occurred online by Google and social media platforms. It is America’s loss to have voices silenced online, especially since so many go there for information. Many are under the impression if they search online, all possible results will appear based on the item’s credibility, popularity, reach, and other factors. This is an artificial and dishonest application to manipulate the results or “throttle” them, purposely driving down traffic so others won’t see them. What is worse is that all of these platforms and search engines live under a certain protection because they aren’t publishers even though they are now acting as such.
Global Life Coalition is committed to bringing the issue of life to the world and the world to life. Therefore, we feel compelled to share our findings to call attention to the unjust actions that are trying to keep pro-life organizations from communicating with the world.
Censoring of Other Pro-Life Organization’s
2015 Facebook Refuses to Allow Live Action to Advertise A Story[iv]
In 2015, Facebook also refused to allow Live Action to advertise one of its stories because “the image or video thumbnail may shock or evoke a negative response from viewers.” The image was of baby Eli Thompson who was born without a nose.
2016 Facebook Admits They Suppress Conservative News Stories Including Life News[v]
Facebook became a subject of national controversy in 2016 after some of its workers admitted that they suppressed conservative news stories in favor of liberal ones. LifeNews.com, which is the leading pro-life news website on the Internet and the only one specifically devoted to pro-life issues, has long believed that Facebook has been suppressing its traffic.
May 2017 Operation Rescue Webpage Views Drop – Algorithm Change[vi]
Evidence surfaced of algorithm changes to Googles organic searches regarding other pro-life organizations. Operation Rescue, a pro-life organization, saw their webpage Abortions In America, peak at 37,111 views in January of that year, and was well on the way to a record-breaking year. Within the month of May, views mysteriously decreased by more than half over the previous month. In June, it received only 1,512 views. During the last seven days of June, it only received 307 views. Even those searching for it specifically by name struggled to find it online.
In September 2017 Twitter Censors Live Action Ads [vii]
Live Action said Twitter has been censoring its ads. Live Action founder Lila Rose said the social media site blocked their ability to advertise [viii] and told them to change information on their websites if they want to start advertising again.
October 2017 Marsha Blackburn Pro-Life Video Banned from Twitter[ix]
Twitter rejected another ad from pro-life Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn because she mentioned Planned Parenthood’s sales of aborted baby body parts. Twitter later reversed its decision after public pressure.
October 2017 SBA List Censored[x]
The social media giant Twitter is at it again censoring the content of ads from pro-life groups wanting to expose abortion. This time the victim is the Susan B. Anthony List.
As Majrorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA List, explains: “No advertiser is permitted to use the phrase ‘killing babies.’ That’s what Twitter told us when they censored one of our videos.”
“Here’s what happened: We made a video ad for this year’s election for Virginia Attorney General, exposing the pro-abortion Democrat in the race, Mark Herring,” Dannenfelser told LifeNews. “A few days after we launched the ad, Twitter took it down.”
“It seems to us that Twitter should be less offended about what we’re saying about abortion, than what the Abortion Industry is actually doing to unborn babies,” she continued. “But it’s not just political ads Twitter is censoring. They even censored one of my tweets quoting – believe it or not – Mother Teresa! And it’s not just us who Twitter is censoring. They’ve been blocking ads from our friends at Live Action, and our pro-life ally Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn.”[xi]
January 2018 Facebook Refuses to Allow Pro-Life Movie to Buy Ads
The producers of the movie “Roe v. Wade” are being denied ability to buy Facebook ads promoting their film. The movie was notable for taking a pro-life and anti-Planned Parenthood perspective. Once again, Planned Parenthood’s allies came to the rescue.
April 2018 Disability Rights Activist Twitter Account Suspended Over Opposition to Abortion[xii]
Charlotte “Charlie” Fien accused Twitter of suspending her account this week because of her vocal opposition to abortion. Fien, who has Down syndrome, gained wide-spread attention last year when she delivered a powerful response to a United Nations abortion activist.[xiii]
On Tuesday, Fien said Twitter temporarily blocked her account because of the pro-life messages that she posts.
“Hi Followers, after more than 24 hours I’m allowed back into my Twitter account. Funny how Twitter allows willy pics and boobs. Funny how Twitter allows pedophiles and other scum. Funny how Twitter doesn’t like my Pro-Life pics and blocks them.”
Fien is one of many pro-life advocates who has had content blocked by Twitter and other social media sites. Back in December, Fien gained international attention when she gave a powerful speech about the value of unborn babies with disabilities. In a video on YouTube, she slammed UN Human Rights Committee expert Yadh Ben Achour for saying the UN should support abortion as a “preventive measure” against babies with disabilities, Breitbart reported at the time. [xiv]
July 2018 Instagram Censored a Meme by Ryan Bomberger of the Radiance Foundation [xv]
He dared to say that “abortion kills more black lives in two weeks than the KKK lynched in a century.” The image of a noose hung above the words and ended with the line, “Planned Parenthood: Eugenics. No Matter What.”
Fall 2018 makers of the “Gosnell” film said Facebook also censored their ads. [xvi]
November 2018 SBA List Is Censored by Facebook Again [xvii]
A pro-life group is crying foul after Facebook removed three of its paid campaign ads from the popular social media platform. Facebook removed SBA List ads supporting Tennessee Republican Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn. Prior to being pulled the ad had reached an estimated 90,000 voters, the national pro-life group added.
SBA List has faced repeated censorship over the last few All the information presented in the ads has been factual.
In December 2018, LifeNews YouTube downgraded Pro-Life Videos[xviii] in its search results after a pro-abortion writer at Slate complained. The videos included a former abortionist testifying to Congress about the gruesome, violent ways in which unborn babies are aborted, [xix] Live Action’s abortion procedure videos, a video of conservative speaker/writer Ben Shapiro defending the pro-life position, and another of a woman speaking about how deeply she regretted aborting her unborn baby. These videos were extremely popular, each with millions of views on YouTube, but “YouTube changed the results after I asked,” Slate writer April Glaser bragged.
In 2018 Google Censored Search Results During Irelands Referendum[xx]
This was the battle over legalization of abortion in Ireland. Google employees manually interfered with search terms to promote some videos on YouTube, and hide others, in the week leading up to the 2018 abortion referendum. This was a decision taken internally, and hidden from the public, during the period when most undecided voters do their research and make up their minds.
In Early 2019, Live Action Was Banned by Pinterest [xxi]
They have also been banned from advertising on Twitter, while Planned Parenthood and other pro-choice organizations enjoy unrestricted advertising.
January 2019 Conservative Nonprofit PragerU filed suit against Google [xxii]
This action was for allegedly violating state law in restricting access to Prager’s educational videos on YouTube, according to a copy of the complaint obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation.
January 2019 Facebook Censored Ads by Students for Life
Students for Life of America said Facebook censored one of its ads about the dangers of abortion drugs, claiming it “may be shocking and scary to viewers.”
Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life, said their ad used footage from the pro-life movie “Unplanned” to provide an accurate depiction of what can happened to a woman when she takes the abortion drugs.
According to the pro-life organization, Facebook flagged the post as “sensational content” on Memorial Day weekend. In an e-mail exchange with Facebook, Students for Life said it was told that the video could be posted on its page but not run as an ad.
Facebook told the organization: “The key difference is that you choose who you follow or friend, and we don’t have a responsibility for what type of content those individuals choose to share or like so we don’t have the same standards. On the other hand, with advertising we accept money to promote content to users who have often not chosen to see that content or have any relationship to that content.”
Students for Life said its ad included a viewer discretion warning.
Facebook also censored Students for Life Action, the 501c4 arm of Students for Life of America, after it shared an article from LifeNews.com about U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s comments on abortion and tonsillectomies, the pro-life organization said.
“We demand that Facebook allow us to run our ads,” Hawkins said. “This is one more good reason why President Trump recently released an executive order on social media censorship.”
The ad is part of their ThisisChemicalAbortion.com project, which raises awareness about the dangers of the abortion drugs to both women and unborn babies.
Pro-life and conservative groups, including LifeNews.com, recently formed the Free-Speech Alliance to raise awareness and fight against online censorship. The alliance released a letter about Facebook’s new “Oversight Board” and the biases of the overseers.
January 2019 Google is Censoring Pro-Life Content on YouTube [xxiii]
The documents leaked to Breitbart indicated that Google has a “blacklist” file for “controversial YouTube queries” and the term “abortion” is on it, according to the report. Terms related to the Irish abortion referendum and pro-abortion U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters also are on the list, the report indicated. Evidence of the censorship comes from a leaked discussion thread from within Google, which owns YouTube. An unnamed source also gave Breitbart a partial copy of the blacklist.
“If you look at the other entries recently added to the youtube_controversial_query_blacklist (e.g., entries related to the Strasbourg terrorist attack), the addition of abortion seems…out-of-place,” a Google software engineer wrote on the thread, according to the report.
Here is more from the report:
According to the source, the software engineer who started the discussion called the manipulation of search results related to abortion a “smoking gun.”
The software engineer noted that the change had occurred following an inquiry from a left-wing Slate journalist about the prominence of pro-life videos on YouTube, and that pro-life videos were replaced with pro-abortion videos in the top ten results for the search terms following Google’s manual intervention. …
According to the source, a software engineer in the thread also noted that “a bunch of terms related to the abortion referendum in Ireland” had been added to the blacklist – another change with potentially dramatic consequences on the national policies of a western democracy.
Concerns about censorship are not new.
Last week, YouTube faced censorship accusations again when it removed one of Live Action’s videos exposing how Planned Parenthood aids sex traffickers. Eventually, YouTube did apologize, saying the removal was a mistake.
January 2019 The Producers of Movie Unplanned Censored by Twitter[xxiv]
The “Unplanned” filmmakers experienced issues with Twitter over the weekend.
First, the account was suspended, then almost all its followers mysteriously disappeared – despite reaping in an unexpected $6.1 million on opening weekend at the box office, PJ Media reports.[xxv]
On Saturday, the film, which covers the amazing conversion story of former Planned Parenthood abortion clinic director Abby Johnson, had its Twitter account suspended for a brief time.[xxvi] But the issues did not end there. After Twitter restored the account, the filmmakers said they lost more than 99 percent of its 100,000 followers. Those followers later were restored Monday morning.
“Wow!!! 100K Followers,” the filmmakers wrote Sunday afternoon. “
A few hours later, though, they noticed that something else had gone very wrong. Instead of more than 100,000 followers, the account suddenly had dropped below 200, according to various posts and screenshots captured by the site’s users.[xxvii]
“What’s up, Twitter? Since when did a neutral social media platform become a censor & suppressor of human rights?” the account posted early Monday morning.
Others reported that when they clicked the “follow” button on the film page, Twitter would cause them to “unfollow” the page as soon as they refreshed it.
Those having problems included Abby Johnson and Emmy Award winning actress Patricia Heaton.
Ashley Bratcher, the star of “Unplanned,” said Twitter responded to their complaints by saying that the account had been suspended by mistake and its follower count would be restored within an hour.
When LifeNews checked later Monday morning, the account showed 240,000 followers.
However, filmmakers suspect their issues with Twitter were not just a mistake. They suggested the social media giant may be censoring the film and pointed to their site data suggesting that the film should be trending on Twitter.
“It is a sad time we live in when corporations can remove individual’s freedom of speech at will. When did we empower these corporations to have such authority? More importantly, why do we empower them to do so?” Cary Solomon, the co-writer and co-director of the film, told [xxviii]The Hollywood Reporter after Twitter suspended their account.
May 2019 President Donald Trump Signed an Executive Order [xxix]
To hold social media giants like Facebook and Twitter accountable for censoring pro-life conservatives. The big tech companies have repeatedly subjected leading pro-life groups to substandard treatment, subjecting them to shadowbans, false fact-checks, and prohibiting them from advertising to grow their audiences.
June 2019 Pinterest Caught Listing Top Pro-Life Website as Porn to Censor Content[xxx]
It appears that Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are not the only social media sites that may be censoring pro-life content. Based on the evidence provided, it appears that Pinterest intentionally added ‘LiveAction.org’ to a ‘pornography’ blocklist in an effort to suppress our pro-life content from being shared on the platform,” said Live Action founder and president Lila Rose.[xxxi]
The anonymous whistleblower told Project Veritas that the company maintains a “pornography block list” to remove objectionable content from the website. If a website is on that list, Pinterest users cannot create a pin, or post, linking to the site.
After hearing rumors about political censorship, the whistleblower said they looked at the list and found that LiveAction.org had been added in February.
Live Action’s pins typically include inspirational messages to pregnant mothers, ultrasound images of unborn babies and information about abortion procedures and Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion chain in America.
“Pinterest has targeted Live Action, I believe, because our message is so effective at educating millions about the humanity of the preborn child and the injustice of abortion,” Rose said.
She said they have received numerous complaints in the past few months about people having difficulty pinning their content.
The pro-life organization tested Pinterest for itself and was not able to create pins from its own website. It could, however, create pins from pro-abortion websites like Planned Parenthood.
The problems continued through Sunday evening. On Monday, however, after Project Veritas released its interview with the whistleblower, Live Action was able to create pins linking to its website, according to the pro-life organization.
“By secretly applying the label of ‘pornography’ to Live Action’s pro-life content, Pinterest demonstrates a concerted effort to sideline a leading pro-life organization the only way they knew how. This does not appear to be a simple mistake,” Rose said.
She urged the company to stop its “secret and dishonest” censorship and allow the free expression of pro-life content.
The whistleblower’s concerns did not end there. They said someone at Pinterest also added “David Daleiden/Planned Parenthood” to a list of conspiracy theories that it monitors. Daleiden exposed the abortion chain for harvesting aborted baby body parts and allegedly illegally selling them.
The whistleblower said “Bible verses” and other Christian terms also are listed on the Pinterest offensive terms list, a list that employees add terms to manually.
August 2019 Facebook Censors Live Action Again[xxxii]
The social media giant Facebook is once again censoring pro-life organizations as they attempt to share the pro-life perspective with the billions of people worldwide who use its platform.
In this latest action, Facebook has falsely tagged as “false news” a post from the pro-life group LiveAction saying that abortion is not medically necessary.
Facebook’s factchecking mechanism, which deemed Live Action content “inaccurate,” relies on two abortionists who obviously disagree with LiveAction’s position that the direct killing of a child is never medically necessary — the group informed LifeNews.com today.
“With thousands of OB-GYN’s and medical professionals on the record agreeing with us [xxxiii]that the direct killing of a child is never medically necessary, it is telling that Facebook decided to fact-check our information, which we have posted about for over three years, using two abortionists for their sourcing,” Rose said.
She told LifeNews: “Not only did they fail to get disinterested perspectives; they appear to have gone out of their way to find pro-abortion activists whose public opposition to our views is indisputable. This is clear evidence of bias and discrimination against our over three million strong Facebook community members and an outrageous act of censorship on the part of Facebook.”
Rose said that her group and other pro-life organizations rely upon being able to freely communicate ideas through social media. Actions taken by Facebook to suppress Live Action’s content result in, a “false rating” communicated to all followers as well as “reduced distribution and other restrictions.”
“Continued efforts to censor Live Action will have tremendous implications, not only for the pro-life movement, but for free speech in America,” Rose said.
August 2019 Google Staffer Released documents Exposing Massive Pro-Life Censorship Campaign
Google Insider Zachary Vorhies told watchdog group Project Veritas how he documented Google censorship of leading pro-life and conservative web sites for over a year. He made the decision to go public in an on-the-record video interview after Google went after him following the release of the information to Project Veritas.
He decided to go public after receiving a letter from Google, and after he says Google allegedly called the police to perform a “wellness check” on him.
Vorhies had been collecting the documents for over a year. And the reason he collected these documents was because I saw something dark and nefarious going on with the company and I realized that they were going to not only tamper with the elections, but use that tampering with the elections to essentially overthrow the United States,” he said.
Among those documents is a file called “news black list site for google now.” The document, according to Vorhies, is a “blacklist,” which restricts certain websites from appearing on news feeds for an Android Google product.
In June, Project Veritas published internal Google documents revealing “algorithmic unfairness” towards pro-life and conservative web sites. [xxxiv] Vorhies told Project Veritas these were documents that were widely available to full-time Google employees.
“These documents were available to every single employee within the company that was full-time. And so as a full-time employee at the company, I just searched for some keywords and these documents started to pop up. And so once I started finding one document and started finding keywords for other documents and I would enter that in and continue this cycle until I had a treasure trove and archive of documents that clearly spelled out the system, what they’re attempting to do in very clear language.”
Shortly after releasing the information, Vorhies received a letter from Google containing several “demands.” Vorhies told Project Veritas that he complied with Google’s demands, which included a request for any internal Google documents he may have personally retained. Vorhies also said he sent those documents to the Department of Justice Antitrust Division.
After having been identified by an anonymous account (which Vorhies believes belongs to a Google employee,) on social media as a “leaker,” Vorhies was approached by law enforcement at his residence in California. According to Vorhies, San Francisco police received a call from Google which prompted a “wellness check.”
Vorhies described the incident to Project Veritas:
“they got inside the gate, the police, and they started banging on my door… And so the police decided that they were going to call in additional forces. They called in the FBI, they called in the SWAT team. And they called in a bomb squad.”
“[T]his is a large way in which [Google tries to] intimidate their employees that go rogue on the company…”
Partial video of the incident was provided to Project Veritas. San Francisco police confirmed to Project Veritas that they did receive a “mental health call,” and responded to Vorhies’ address that day.
Another newly published document titled “Fringe ranking/classifer: Defining channel quality” lists an example ranking of various news sites, including CNN and FOX News. A document titled “Fake news & other fringe: Trashy recap” reveals that videos are rated by multiple “human raters.”
Vorhies told Project Veritas that he hopes more insiders at Google decide to go public and discuss big tech abuses.
“My message to those that are on the fence is I released the documents. They can go in, they can see everything that Google is doing and then they can see the scale of it. Because I think that there’s a lot of engineers that have a hint that things are wrong, but they don’t understand the colossal scale that it’s at. And so for those people, I say, look at the documents, take the pulse of America, see what’s happening and come and tell the world you know what you already know to be true.”
Project Veritas requested comment from Google on this story but did not receive a response at the time of this publication. Google has also not responded to a media query from LifeNews.
September 2019, Facebook “Fact Checker” Science Feedback Rates Pro-Life Video as “False News” After labeling Live Actions video, then the fact checker also sent notifications to all of Live Action’s followers. Live Action has the largest pro-life following on social media. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg admitted behind closed doors to Senator Josh Hawley[xxxv] that there “clearly was bias” in their censorship of Live Action. Zuckerberg added that bias is “an issue we’ve struggled with for a long time.”
The third-party fact-checkers both directly profit from abortion — one of them is an abortionist and the other is an abortionist and an abortion trainer. Due to this Facebook violation, Live Action and Lila Rose’s Facebook page reach was reduced for the “repeated sharing of false news.” In the video Live Action states that “abortion is never medically necessary” and this is the claim that Facebook issued the violation over. One thousand medical experts signed the Dublin Declaration declaring “the purposeful destruction of the unborn child — is not medically necessary to save the life of a woman.” Live Action states that 2,500 OBGYNS at the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians & Gynecologists also agree that abortion is never medically necessary to save the life of a woman. Live Action further states that it may be medically necessary to deliver a child early, but this is not an abortion.
September 2019 GOP Senators Send Letter to Facebook CEO
Senators Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Mike Braun, and Kevin Cramer sent a letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg condemning the censorship of Live Action and demanding an immediate correction. Following this letter, Live Action stated that Facebook sent another push notification to all of their followers on Wednesday claiming that they are spreading “false news.”
November 2019 Twitter has been allowing a new pro-abortion group, Equity Forward, to attack pro-life organizations with a series of inflammatory ads.[xxxvi]
According to the report, Equity Forward just launched a campaign called Pro-Lies.org, which attacks leading pro-life organizations, including Americans United for Life, Students for Life, Susan B. Anthony List, Charlotte Lozier Institute, Heritage Foundation and Obria.
Its ads on Twitter claim these pro-life organizations stoke “fear with inflammatory lies” to “push an anti-abortion agenda full of hate and lies.”
Equity Forward claims to support “transparency and accountability,” but Live Action had to dig to find details about who is behind the new pro-abortion group. It found that the group’s senior adviser Mary Alice Carter has close ties to both Planned Parenthood and NARAL, two of the most powerful pro-abortion lobbying groups in the U.S. When the pro-life organization investigated further, it found other staffers with links to pro-abortion groups as well.
January 2020 Twitter Slaps Warning Label on President Trump Video of an Unborn Baby
video issued showing images of born and unborn babies, including an ultrasound and a newborn cuddling with his parents, also includes President Trump speaking about how he will continue to defend the right to life. President Trump’s Pro-Life Video [xxxvii] Soon after launching, Twitter stuck a warning label on the video, cautioning users that it contained “sensitive material,” The Washington Free Beacon reports.
The warning label typically is reserved for violent, graphic or sexual content. According to Twitter guidelines, the social media business tries to “limit exposure to sensitive images and videos and to prevent the sharing of potentially disturbing types of sensitive media.” See Life News article for more.
February 2020 Facebook Removes Link to Interview with Abortion Survivor[xxxviii]
Pro-life podcast host Seth Gruber said Facebook removed a link to his interview with abortion survivor Melissa Ohden, claiming it violated “community standards,” The Christian Post reports.
Gruber hosts the podcast “Un-Aborted!”
The post featured a picture of a baby with Down syndrome and information about how more babies with Down syndrome are being killed in abortions in the UK than a decade ago.
As LifeNews reported today, the British pro-life group SPUC highlighted new government figures[xl] obtained by a member of Parliament showing the number of late term abortions carried out past 24 week’s gestation on UK children with Down’s syndrome have doubled in the past 10 years. The recent figures, obtained in response to a parliamentary question by Lord Alton, have revealed that in 2018, the number of UK children aborted past 24 weeks gestation following a possible Down’s syndrome diagnosis increased from 11 babies killed in 2009 to 23 babies dying in 2018.
Seeking to highlight those figures at the LifeNews.com Instagram account, LifeNews posted the photo of the baby with Down syndrome and a copy of the headline with the message “Horrific!” Less than 14 minutes later, Instagram covered up the photo with a false claim that the post was “False Information” that was supposedly “Reviewed by independent fact-checkers” — even though the information was only released earlier today by SPUC. When users uncover the false flag to see the LifeNews post, a bright red Instagram warning appears claiming “See why fact-checkers say this is false.”
To get around Instagram’s censorship, LifeNews staff re-posted the image along with new content saying “Unborn babies with Down syndrome are being discriminated against at an alarming rate. But pro-lifers are working to protect them and restore the rights of every baby in the womb.
But Instagram almost immediately tagged that post with the same false claims that it contained false information.
June 2020 NBC News Reports Google Banned the Federalist [xli]
Google banned a popular pro-life and conservative news website, from its advertising platform. Google based its decision on claims that The Federalist ran “racist articles” that defended “white supremacism” and promoted “conspiracy theories” about the Black Lives Matter movement, according to the report.
The Federalist also was faulted for publishing an article criticizing the mainstream media for its failure to cover the extensive looting and violence during the protests, according to the report.
June 2020 Google Employee/Member of Ethics Committee Calling Conservatives “Nazis”[xlii]
Project Veritas has obtained a newly leaked document from Google that appears to show a Google employee and member of Google “transparency-and-ethics” group calling conservative and libertarian commentators, including Dennis Prager and Ben Shapiro, “Nazis.” A new revelation from Project Veritas has found that YouTube and Google labeled popular conservative commentators as “Nazis.”
In a leaked document published on June 25, an email from a Google employee, Liam Hopkins, described Ben Shapiro, Dr. Jordan Peterson, and Dennis Prager as “nazis using dog whistles.” He suggested that YouTube consider “disabling the suggestions feature” for these YouTube creators, meaning that their videos would no longer show up in the recommendations on other videos on the platform.
Hopkins, a member of Google’s “transparency and ethics” group, also mentioned that he did not think it was “beyond our capabilities” to identify “far right content” correctly. This is ironic because he labeled three respectable conservatives as “Nazis.”
In the past two weeks, the whistleblower website headed by James O’Keefe has come under fire from Twitter, Reddit, and YouTube. Veritas’ latest project, which included several leaks about Google preparing for the 2020 election, was censored from both Reddit and YouTube in the 24 hours after its release. The video was flagged “due to a privacy claim by a third party,” according to Veritas.
The video was the second one deleted from Project Veritas’ account. An expose about Pinterest censorship was also flagged and pulled down due to a privacy claim.
The Google video includes footage of a Google head talking about preventing “the next Trump situation” in 2020. It also includes leaks documenting the suppression of content creators on YouTube who fell afoul of YouTube’s political beliefs.
Life News Learns that Facebook’s Fact-Checking Mechanism Relies on Two Abortionists, Daniel Grossman and Robyn Schickler[xliii]
May 2020 Nine fact-checkers, selected by the liberal, Soros-funded Poynter Institute, control what news stories are suppressed on Facebook.
For pro-life organizations, this means that stories that label Planned Parenthood as an “abortion business” are singled out and fact-checked by liberal outlets like USA Today. “[T]o call it an abortion business is a stretch, as the organization provides other services far more often,” said Haley BeMiller, a local government reporter for the USA Today-owned Green Bay Press-Gazette. The fact-checker rated LifeNews.com’s story as “partly false.”
October 2020 Choose Life Marketing Facebook Business Account Shutdown
With one quick swoop, Facebook shut down Choose Life Marketing’s Facebook Business management account which renders them unable to conduct that portion of their marketing business for the 300 pregnancy resource centers.
As paying customers of Facebook, it is appalling our account was locked without reason and their only answer for us is it might take weeks to hear back from them
(Choose Life) “I work for a pro-life marketing agency called Choose Life Marketing. We provide marketing services to pro-life pregnancy centers all over the country, helping them reach abortion-minded women in their communities with life-affirming services and help.
On October 15, we logged into our Facebook Business Manager account like any other day to check on the ads we run for these pregnancy centers. At the top of the screen was a notice that our account had been restricted because we apparently “violated Facebook’s advertising policies.”
Immediately, we reviewed all of the policies and could find none that we had violated. Confused, we submitted a request to have our account reviewed. Shockingly, we received a notice that it could take weeks for us to receive an answer.
This means for weeks, we won’t be able to run Facebook or Instagram ads for the pregnancy centers we serve. As paying customers of Facebook, it is appalling our account was locked without reason and their only answer for us is it might take weeks to hear back from them.
Since that time Senator Josh Hawley contacted Facebook and they reinstated the account.
